Note on preserving willow:
Willow is not a durable material, to extend the life of willow structures they are best coated in a preservative. The traditional method is a 50/50 mix of linseed oil and turpentine (white spirit or similar substitute can be used). A good coating of this each season, as well as taking plant supports indoors during the winter will help preserve the willow. The willow artist Emma Stothard recommends two coats of Blackfriar clear wood preservative and two coats of clear exterior finish every three years, www.emmastothard.com
